I made it without my hubby!

Here is my post for the party tonight. I know that alot of you have seen it before. But here goes....

My kitchen

from one end....

....to the other. Kinda nice. I liked it for awhile. That is the way that I am. The color was okay, but you were stuck with those colors in the room. It was warm and cozy. The room looked as small, if not smaller than it was. You can even see the ugly gray laminate countertops with backsplash.

But so much has changed. My husband went on a trip to Canada for a week. That wild hair was just bugging me! I got up the nerve to do it and I did! First I put up the beadboard wallpaper and painted it pure white in a high gloss. It looks wonderful and was alot cheaper than actual beadboard. So easy to do and clean up of it is a dream!

Then came the countertops. Since they were ugly anyways, I decided to do a cheap fix on them and paint. The backsplash had to go though. My original thought was that I was going to use the beadboard wallpaper as a backsplash. That changed to tile. So I decided on a small section to see how easy it would be to pull off the wall. It came off so easy! I was confident that I could do this.

Ever hear that Bill Cosby skit thingy about giving the kids chocolate cake for breakfast? They are all singing praises to him happy as little clams.... until Mom appears and it goes quiet? That was kinda like this moment. One minute I am happily having fun pulling off the backsplash and then disaster....

I took off a big chunk of drywall off the wall. There it was a big gaping hole. I panicked. Then I calmed down, got some drywall mud and patched the hole. Tile was going over it so it didn't have to be perfect. I installed the tile backsplash. Then I painted and urethaned the countertops.

A close up of the tile.

I used a travertine tile. I also did the labeling on the jars with chalkboard paint. A new view...

A new table and a bench that I found at the antique mall. The throw pillows on the bench spell out "EAT". The upper part of the walls is painted Sherwin Williams Nomadic Desert.

It's still a work in progress, but I really like how it is turning out so far.

I forgot to mention that I also made the valances without my hubby. He's not a sewing kind of guy anyways, so that is not surprising.

Thank you to AnNicole @ Our Suburban Cottage for the inspiration to do my countertops!

Way to go! One time my husband came home and I had torn out all the sheet rock in an entire bedroom and hauled the mess out. We were planning on re-sheetrocking anyway I just got way ahead of the game.
Have a blessed day, Tracy
