Finding Inspiration in the Little Things

Sometimes you can find inspiration in the weirdest places.  I found mine for my bedroom at Lowe's in a plant.

Meet George

I found George in the clearance section and he was beautiful.  Atleast to me.  He also had a companion that I bought too.  Both were $1.00!  I happily brought him home and gave him some love!  Much needed love.

This got me to thinking of a flower pot in my basement.  My husband bought me the pot when we were first married.  I used to have a fig tree in it until our puppy at the time decided to eat it.  So the pot sat empty.  When we moved, the pot went to the basement and there it has sat.

Until now....

I went down and found the pot.  I dumped out the old fig tree remnants and cleaned it up.  Nothing like a good old bubble bath to make you feel refreshed.  This would be the perfect new home for George!  Now where to put George?  Thus the inspiration was found.  George and his pot would go in the room and be my inspiration piece.

My sister found this and I instantly fell in love!

This was the look that I was looking for!  I had thought for a minute of painting the furniture white that was going in the room, but once I saw this I decided against it.  The floor in the room is expresso colored.  The headboard, armoire and dresser are also expresso colored.  So they are going to stay expresso.

Now for the bedding.  Again, my sister came to the rescue and found a beautiful bedding set from Ralph Lauren.

It's a duvet cover and 2 shams which is exactly what I wanted.  I kinda gasped at the price tag of it, but found it brand new in the package on Ebay for half the price.  Winner!

It matches the wall color that I chose from the flower pot perfectly.  The wall color is the middle one on the swatch called Tranquil Vibe.  Perfect name for a bedroom.

Now to get to work!  First is to clean out the room and paint.

Wish me luck!

February

 Happy February!

Since February is the month for love, let's start with the master bedroom.  Syrina originally was going to take this room, but changed her mind and chose the new room we made out of the attic space.  Did not hurt my feelings at all since this room has slanted ceilings and not the most comfortable to move around in.

So....like every room I work on in this house it needs to be cleaned out first.  She never finished moving her stuff out of it, so that is the first thing.  There is alot of stuff to be moved still.

Alot of stuff....

....a lot....

Then it needs to be painted.  Three walls are a silver gray and one wall is teal.  Seems dad has this desire to paint one wall of every room a different color.  I think first I need to find something to inspire me.  I know what I want the room to look like.  I need to get the ducks in order!

So it looks like I am off to clean!

Ciao!

I"M BACK!

 That's right...I'm back!

It's been quite awhile since I have posted here.  Excuse me while I dust off the cobwebs!  Who am I kidding?!  Me? Dust?  So much has happened since I was last here.  My oldest daughter has moved out with her significant other, my son is planning his wedding in June and my youngest is in high school.

Phew!

Unfortunately, we lost our baby girl Sheba.  I miss her so much!  13-1/2 years is a long time for a Great Dane though.  I wouldn't trade one minute of it though.

One of my last pics of the kids and Sheba.  Don't mind my filthy steps.  Obviously I don't sweep either!

It's been over a year now and this dipsh*t has come into our lives.

Meet Gepetto!  Not the sharpest tool in the shed, but very handsome!  Believe it or not, he is just a puppy.  Not even a year old yet.

Since our youngest will be graduating in a few years, we have been thinking a lot about our "golden years".  We still live in the farmhouse, but we also bought a house on Houghton Lake.  It's on the, as my kids say, geriatric side of the lake.  LOL.  It's right on a canal so we have easy access to the lake.  I love it up there!

It's not big, but it's big enough.  My husband has accumulated quite the fleet also.  We are now the proud owners of a pontoon boat, speed boat, 7 kayaks and a paddle boat.  If you are itching to get out on the lake, we can get you there!  I also haven't started to personalize this home either.  We just bought some furniture for when we go up and have called it good.... for now....

The farmhouse is still not complete.  I think we got burned out working on it and just haven't been inspired to get back to working on it.  I am hoping that restarting the blog will hold me accountable.  I seemed to get so much done when I had the blog.  I have set a goal that by next Christmas it is going to be done!

Besides wanting to get the house done, I have gone back to work.  I work in one of our local elementary schools as a secretary.  I love it!  The kiddos are so freaking cute!  I also started my own business for when I retire from the school.  Every now and then you will see items pop up on here that I make.

So that is about it for now.  What have all of you been up to?!  I am so excited to reconnect with old friends and make new ones!  I also can't wait to share all of my adventures, good and bad, with all of you!  Until then, keep fighting the good fight my peeps!
